INT2041 - Virtual Space

Unit Brief

The aim of this brief was to create an interactive non-representational virtual space based on a real world space using Adobe Flash.

I was working with Tom Walters and Emily Clancy in a group to complete this project.

Proposal

As a group we came up with several ideas, but most were too difficult to make non-representational. Some of the ideas we ruled out were a road, a night club and a sports stadium. The idea we came up with that we went with was a leisure complex with an ice rink, bowling and a go-kart track.

Research

As there aren't many non-representational virtual space web sites on the internet, we looked at past students attempts. However, we found that most were too representational.

Planning

We created sketches and mock-ups of each area before proceeding to turn our ideas into an actual web site using Adobe Flash.

Final Piece

The web site we created can be found at:

Documentation for this project is available as a PDF in the sidebar on the right.

Review

I am pleased with my contributions to this project. This was the first time I've really got into ActionScript which was challenging for me as I had to learn lots in order to create the ice rink and entrance lobby. I think the other members of the group could have put more effort into their individual area.
