WEB2003 - Marketing Methodologies

Unit Brief

The main aim of this brief was to explore the methodology and place of marketing on the web and the relationship between online marketing and previous forms.

For this brief, I was chosen along with Ed Symington and Jamie Wright to work on a web site for a high profile client called Trident, a packaging pre-press company based in Hull.

Proposal

After meeting with the client, we came to the conclusion that they wanted a web site that would primarily be used as an information resource for customers and potential employees. It needed to be able to be updated easily, so we proposed a content management system.

Research

We looked at some of their competitors in order to see the kind of content they had and how they presented it in order to get an idea of what we were up against.

Planning

We created a mock-up of a design idea we had and showed it to the client. We then created several other mock-ups taking their feedback into account before they chose and approved a final design.

Final Piece

The final web site is available at:

A marketing proposal and an user guide for the content management system is available as a PDF in the sidebar on the right.

Review

This was a great opportunity to work with a real client which has helped me understand the processes involved and the problems that can occur. I have had to learn lots of new things in order to be able to complete this project, such as jQuery, a JavaScript library to be able to create animated menus and other functionality. I also had to figure out how to create the web site in such a way, so that it could be easily made available in other languages.
